Mahindra e2o to be launched next month in UK

Mahindra is all set to launch the e2o in London next week. At under £13,000 (₹12.3 lakh) it could be a much cheaper option over many others electric cars from Nissan, BMW or Tesla. For example Nissan's sunny costs about twice the cost of the  e2o.

Mahindra said the e2o has been designed as an affordable City car that can compete with normal diesel cars. Its the first time the company is entering London with an electric car preposition.

Arvind Mathew, chief executive of Mahindra’s electric vehicle business, said: “We want to take [electric cars] out of the elitist market and make it more of a run-of-the-mill thing. Our product is really designed for City commuting, not for long distance driving.” He also added: “Our foray into the UK is purely electric so it’s a big deal for us because as a brand we don’t exist. From the Mahindra group perspective, this is a huge deal.”

Following the launch in London they would launch e2o in Birmingham, Bristol, and Milton Keynes.

Mahindra has been selling its e2o in India and Nepal for about 3 years. Unfortunately due to the high cost and lack of infrastructure, Mahindra could not see much success. Its sales have seen a decent improvement following the subsidy give by the Indian government under FAME policy. But unlike India, UK government offers upto £5,000 (₹4.7 lakh) as subsidies on electric cars and also a decent infrastructure for electric cars  along with few goodies like free parking, etc are available, which could boost e2o's sales overall.
